What are Some Important Considerations for Table Lamp Placement?
Table lamps are essential fixtures in every home. To optimize their use, let's discuss some key considerations.
1. Table lamp height is crucial.
Generally, a distance of 30 cm from a book allows for clear reading without excessive fatigue. Based on this, a table lamp height of 40-50 cm from the book is ideal, ensuring adequate reading illumination while also providing a moderate level of ambient brightness. If the table lamp is too low, the light will reach too small a range, leaving the surrounding area completely dark. Without a reference point for distant vision, the eye's various adjustment systems are strained and compressed, focusing solely on near objects. This can easily lead to eye fatigue, which can quickly accumulate and cause "light-induced myopia." If the table lamp is too high, the light will shine directly into the eyes, causing glare. Furthermore, strong light at close range can cause light retention on the retina, tightening the eye muscles and accelerating vision loss.
2. The size of the bulb should match the lampshade.
Make sure the bulb is properly enclosed within the lampshade to avoid direct light into our eyes. 3. The bulb's power should be appropriate. If the power is too low, the light shining on the book will be dim, making it difficult to see the handwriting, which can cause eyestrain and, over time, myopia. If the power is too high, the excessive light will reflect off the white paper into our eyes, causing glare and continuously constricting the pupils, leading to eye pain and headaches. Generally speaking, a 25-45 watt incandescent bulb is the most suitable brightness.
